Visit: Reina Sofía Museum

In our visit to Reina Sofía Museum we will discover the life and works of Pablo Picasso, especially one of his most well-known works: El Guernica.

The reason that pushed Pablo Picasso to reproduce the scene represented in this big painting was receiving the news about the bombings made by the German air force to the Basque town that gives its name to the work. Nevertheless, neither the sketches nor the painting make any allusion to specific events, but, on the contrary, they make a general statement against the brutality and terror of war. It was conceived as an enormous poster, and it is a testimony of the horror of the Spanish Civil War, as well as a premonition of what was going to happen in the Second World War.
